Born to Reproduce
Healthy married couples have kids. There is in every married couple a desire to reproduce. Thank God for this desire. None of us would be here if it did not exist.
The same is true of every follower of Jesus. We are the bride of Christ (Ephesians 5). Jesus is our groom. If we are walking in fellowship with Jesus we will naturally desire to reproduce disciples. We will have a deep desire to be a part of the birthing process of seeing people “born again” into the family of God.
But this desire does not stop there. Good parents do more than give birth to kids. They train and nurture them for years. The same is true of followers of Jesus. We see people come to faith and then we train and nurture them over a long period of time until they are healthy enough to reproduce as well. This may take months. It may take years. But this is how the Kingdom of Jesus grows.
Every Christ follower is born to reproduce. This is not just the job of a few. It is normative for all of Jesus followers.
Paul referred to Timothy as his “true child” (1 Corinthians 4:17; 2 Timothy 2:1). He also used this language to refer to Titus (Titus 1:4) and Onesimus (Philemon 1:10). Paul reproduced.
Reproduction is enjoyable and messy and time-consuming. But as every parent will tell you, it is worth it.
Are you reproducing disciples for Jesus?
