The Gospel is Not Good News

The apostle John told the Ephesian church in Revelation 2:4 that they had lost their first love.

Rate your passion for God right this moment. Is he your greatest love? Is the gospel good news to you? I don’t ask these questions to shame you, but to encourage an honest reflection on our love for God and our passion level for what he calls the gospel.

A survey recently concluded that there are three favorite statements Americans love to hear: “I love you.” “You are forgiven.” “Supper is ready.”

Those three statements are all good news. Those three statements are also the gospel according to the book of Revelation.

Revelation 1:5, “To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood.” Revelation 19:9, “Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb.”

You are loved by God.

You are forgiven because of the cross.

Supper is ready and He invites you to join him.

That is not good news. The gospel shares the greatest news our hungry souls can ever hear!
